Interview #1- Heidica

What is your name? (Screen names you are known by or even your real name if you are comfortable sharing)

My name is Heidica, I use Northernlight as it describes me well , hehe, a strange phenomena from the north.
I am from Norway, land of ice and cold, and true Norwegian black metal.

What do you personally believe is a vampire?

I believe a vampire is someone who is born with a need for energy, either in blood or chi.

What type of vampire are you?

I am a psi, I get sick if I don’t feed enough.
I am born with a chronic condition which affects me more when I am low on energy, I have to feed every week.
Mostly I feed ambient, but I have regular donors that will provide for me when I need it.They are the ones outside my family who knows what I am.
I work with energy on a daily basis, and use my abilities in my job and everyday life.
I crave blood sometimes but I try not to make things more complicated than it already is, so when it gets too bad I mostly eat a raw steak and we have some excellent moose over her
What Vampire communities have you interacted/integrated yourself within?

The only place I have found other vampires to interact with so far is on the OVC , I am a member of several internet groups and forums, but not connected to any houses or covens.
There are very few vampires in Norway, and the ones that exist have not yet found each other. There are no houses, clubs or gatherings for vampires. There are a few goth/metal underground clubs, but very few are real vampires, its mostly roleplayers unfortunately.
I have found a few other Norwegians in the OVC recently, we are talking about meeting each other, but it seems people are scared of real life interactions, which is understandable.

How long have you been part of them?

I found the OVC in 2010.

How did you find out you were a vampire?

My need for energy is something I was born with, there are several psis in my family, far back to my knowledge. The vampiric side has not been openly spoken about, my relatives have been ashamed of it and tried to hide it. They are energy workers, healers, artists and performers, but the darker side is something I have had to search for info elsewhere.
I had no knowledge that there existed others outside my own family, it was after watching a Norwegian talk show where Michelle Belanger participated that I became familiar with the term psychic vampire. It has helped me a lot and I have found both information and new vampiric friends online.

I am trying to gather the few Norwegians I can find, my goal is to start a Norwegian information page with good links and suggestions, I am working at it but I need someone with computer skills to help me.
What roles have you had?

I admin a few Facebook groups, have started one for the few Norwegians I have found in the OVC, hopefully it will attract more people.
Together with two vampiric friends I also started a project group where it is possible to either discuss vampire/otherkin related issues or get personal assistance from a counselor.
I asked several experienced people with different abilities for this, so far its a small try out but it seems to be working and developing.
What are the biggest problems you have seen or continue to see within the Vampire Communities?
The biggest problems in the OVC , well it seems to me that many in here think that their experiences is the truth for everyone. I hear so many different experiences, backgrounds, memories or beliefs, its all interesting and it is the truth for the one experiencing it.
I think gathering and comparing information is the only way to find out more about why and how we exist.

What are you most proud of in the vampire culture/life style?

I am very proud of the fact that so many try to cooperate and work through the differences, I see a great many intelligent and skilled people in here. I am proud to belong in the online vampire community:)

Where do you want to see the Online Vampire communities in the future?

I wish to see an even more global vampire community, people working to share information and experiences across borders of religion, race, gender, nationality and differences in feeding methods. I believe it is possible.

What changes have you observed within the communities since you first got there?

I have not been a member of the community for very long, but I feel there are more and more people who wish for a unity and a global online community. Recently articles and news have proved this, and I have felt more people welcome me as a Scandinavian now than when I first started my search for others.

What is your opinion on vampire awakenings?

My personal awakening happens it stages, many times it has happened together with crisis or events in my personal life. Either the awakening triggers a change, or the change triggers more awakening, I am open for both possibilities.
To me the worst awakening stage, or maybe the most demanding is a better word, was when I finally found others. I went through both a spiritual and personal change, interesting and frightening at the same time.
Most days I am happy to be what I am, and use what abilities I have gotten for the benefit of others.
On other days when I feel weak and in pain from lack of energy, or scared of loosing control of my dark side, those are the times where its not so hot to be a vamp.
But its never, ever boring

Interview #2 Alison Demzon

What is your name? (Screen names you are known by or even your real name if you are comfortable sharing)

I have given up on the idea of using pseudonyms a while ago. This was driven home when the FBI arrested a good number of the people involved in the group calling itself “Anonymous” proving that any activity on the Internet is not. Alison Demzon is my real legal full name.

What do you personally believe is a vampire?

Someone that has a need for nutritional supplement in the form of blood. Also, loosely, those that I have seen that for some reason instinctually drain those around of energy bet described by the ancient Chinese Tao and Tai Chi Chuan writings by the character Chi; directly translate able as energy.

What type of vampire are you?

Sanguine.

What Vampire communities have you interacted/integrated yourself within?

I was a part of the community in the Denver area before it collapsed. There were not many people here to start with. I wander about on the Internet, and always have.

How long have you been part of them?

I have been involved for 20 years total; most being the 16 years online.

How did you find out you were a vampire?

I started having problems physically that the doctors could not work out. My girlfriend at the time introduced me to a person that she said might have an idea, and it worked.

What roles have you had?

I don’t understand that one, sorry.

What are the biggest problems you have seen or continue to see within the Vampire Communities?

That 16 years ago, when I was first finding the online communities, people who were of a religious, lifestyle, or online roleplay existence were allowed to integrate; the effect of people being too politically correct in the wrong instances.

What are you most proud of in the vampire culture/life style?

Not much. I am a person that is trying to work out what this medical problem is; not someone taking part in a subset of gothic culture, or participating in any sort of life style choice. This is my life.

Where do you want to see the Online Vampire communities in the future?

Gone. Truly; the current people that see themselves in charge of the chaos with no common goals that is trying to call itself a culture have no direction of purpose themselves. With no direction or commonalities people will continue to slip away. As it was put during the long argument in the USEnet group alt.vampyres “the Internet: the place where people come to beat the grease spot that was once a dead horse.” There has been nothing new in at least 10 years, and everyone is happy with it. This is why those that started the online “community” are no longer a part of it, or participating.

What changes have you observed within the communities since you first got there?

That the egos have gotten bigger; but the understanding of sciences has gotten much smaller. I have seen too many times recently where people have mentioned string theory as a possibility for vampirism, and even once hear the term quantum entanglement thrown in when the person was talking about a covalently bonded molecular structure. The over all education is just lacking, where in the beginning it was people serious about finding scientific answers for the most part.

What is your opinion on vampire awakenings?

Either a parson is or they are not; there is not making someone be something that they are not. I have run one test on the idea of forcing an awakening; it showed nothing happening.

What is your name? (Screen names you are known by or even your real name if you are comfortable sharing)
Anonymous
What do you personally believe is a vampire? I Personally believe that a vampire is a creature who has a spiritual difference from what would normally be considered a human spirit. There are many different types, vampiric is merely one.

What type of vampire are you?

I am a Psi Vampire, that mainly feeds from the sexual energies between people.

What Vampire communities have you interacted/integrated yourself within?

I have been involved in my local vampire community, the New York/ New Jersey community, the Portland Oregon community and of course the on line Vampire community

How long have you been part of them?

I have been around the vampire community for around 14 years

How did you find out you were a vampire?

I always knew I was different, I suppose everyone says that thought at some point in their lives. For me there wasn’t a grand awakening that included a big revelation “I am Vampire!” it was more like a passing realization. Someone said, “I knew there was about vampire around here!” and I realized she was right, then got another Gin and Tonic and danced some more.

What roles have you had?

I don’t understand the question.

What are the biggest problems you have seen or continue to see within the Vampire Communities?
Well I think the biggest issue is actually a lack of people who are educated in specific fields to step forward and add to the knowledge base. Some people would say it is the dramatics, but really that is limited to some of the larger forums. Most of the smaller ones have a pretty limited drama base, but even with a low drama atmosphere, the more educated people tend to keep a low profile.

What are you most proud of in the vampire culture/life style?

I really enjoy the reception I have received at various events. People always seem to be friendly and welcoming. I am also thrilled to see the movement in the last five years. We have moved from being strictly a education and support community, to a progressive one with connections in media, universities and now we are seeing some in politics.

Where do you want to see the Online Vampire communities in the future?

I would love to see them become more diverse and welcoming. We are becoming too big to all fall under flag, but it would be nice if all the flags we are flying with a favorable purpose.

What is your opinion on vampire awakenings?

I think we all reach a period of transition in our lives, but how extreme that is varies from person to person much like how quickly one or another goes into puberty. Some people just jump into it fast and dramatic, and others progress into it smooth and slow. If I were to say all people have the exact same experience or they weren’t real I would be as wrong as if I said if you can’t grow a great moustache you can’t be a human male.
